To compliment The Bold & The New exhibition the JNAAG is bringing together enthusiastic art collectors John Oravec & Marisa Bernardi, private gallery owner Michael Gibson, and artist James Kirkpatrick. The panel will discuss the unique relationship that forms between an artist and a collector, the role that a collector and gallery can play in the life of an artist, and delve into the back story behind the London Room purchase. The discussion will touch on topics of collecting unconventional art, how to live and display a contemporary art collection in your home, along with why it can be important for donors to give works to public art galleries.

the Artist                   

James Kirkpatrick has exhibited his work extensively throughout the US and Canada including shows in New York, Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, Halifax, Toronto and Vancouver. Also known for his participation in the early Canadian graffiti movement and as avant-garde hip-hop artist, Thesis Sahib, Kirkpatrick works in a variety of media including drawing, painting, sculpture, zines, maskmaking and experimental sound improvisation. His sculptures are extensions of his drawing and painting practice and are also used in his collaborations and live performances.

the Gallery

Michael Gibson is President of the Michael Gibson Gallery. Upon completion of his BBA at Bishop’s University, Gibson opened a gallery in downtown London in 1984. Michael has built a successful business in London, ON by focusing on representing the leading artists in Canada. The gallery represents several prominent artists’ estates.
