The Judith & Norman Art Gallery's collection contains over 1000 works of art by Canadian artists. Reproductions, mostly in digital form, are available for reproduction and research purposes. The Collections Department handles all requests for the use of images of artworks in the Gallery's collection for individual, non-profit and commercial purposes. For information on placing a request, see below, or contact [email protected] for details.
Copyright protects the creator of an artwork from unauthorized or inappropriate use of their work. The owner of copyright is usually the work's creator or heirs, unless the work is in the public domain. If you wish to use a reproduction of a work for purposes other than personal use, it is your responsibility to obtain copyright permission.
A general guide to Canadian copyright:
• Living artist - copyright owned by the artist
• Deceased artist (less than 50 years) – copyright owned by the heirs
• Deceased artist (more than 50 years) – copyright expired, work in the public domain
Reproduction Permission and Conditions
Images provided for reproduction remain the property of The Judith & Norman ALIX Art Gallery and are licensed for one-time use only. If an image is to be reproduced in a print publication, the Gallery requests that one copy of the publication be supplied to Rights and Reproductions.
Contact Collections with the specific information relating to your request, including the artist, title of the work, type and format of your publication, timeframe, and image format and specifications. Collections will let you know what is available and how long it will take to process your request. Allow a minimum of 4 weeks for all orders. Where new photography is required, please allow additional time (to be confirmed at time of request).
Contact Shelly Mallon [email protected] to request an Application Form. Once this form is accepted, an invoice will be sent to you. The gallery accepts cheque, Visa, MasterCard. The requested images will be forwarded once payment is received.
Fees are charged for the purchase and rental of photographic images. Price depends on the type and size of photograph required, whether existing photography is available or new photography must be done, and whether it is for non-profit or commercial use. Please contact Collections for a current fee schedule.
