Body Talk: Contemporary Dance Movement

July 13, 2019 | 11:00 am - 4:00 pm

with Jessica Ireland

$45 (+HST) | Members discount available | Spaces are limited | Registration required | Ages 18 and up | Light refreshments provided

Jess Ireland has been dancing for nearly 30 years. She specializes in modern and contemporary dance, favouring improvisational techniques and experiences. She studied and performed with the University of Western Ontario dance company from 2005-2008. Ireland has also performed in multiple award-winning productions with the Breath in Mvmt. dance company in London, ON. She currently dances at O.N.E. Dance Centre in her spare time, and runs workshops for people with little to no dance experience who want to reconnect with and express themselves through movement. She aims to tell stories with her dancing – whether its her stories or those of others, the simple and complicated – and tries to find an authentic space from which to move. Some of her favourite dance inspirations are both formally trained teachers as well as individuals with zero training, but who have something to say and a love of organic movement.

Contemporary dance breaks the conventional style of dance and focuses on freedom of movement. Reconnect with your body and express yourself through intentional movement. Participants will warm-up, and be taken through a series of exercises and explorations in body awareness, organic movement, partner and group work, and tapping into emotions, storytelling, and their connection to movement. Participants do not need dance experience—just an open mind, and a love of movement and dance. Please wear regular workout attire.

For program and event registration, please call 519-336-8127 ext. 3226 or register online here.
