Photo-conceptual art in Canada with Dr. Sarah Bassnett

This talk will discuss select artworks from the exhibition, Photography in Canada 1960-2000, in relation to key themes in photo-conceptual art. Of particular interest is how artists have explored the nature of representation and how they have engaged with social and political issues.

Her award-winning book, Picturing Toronto: Photography and the Making of a Modern City (McGill-Queen’s University Press, 2016), examines photography’s role in the liberal reform of early twentieth- century Toronto.
