This lecture examines how the events of Expo ‘67 in Montreal transformed the way that Indigenous art in Canada is perceived; in particular, how it helped create the artist collective “Professional Native Indian Artists Inc.”, which included members Jackson Beardy, Eddy Cobiness, Alex Janvier, Norval Morrisseau, Daphne Odjig, Carl Ray and Joseph Sanchez.

Matthew Ryan Smith, Ph.D. is the Curator & Head of Collections of Glenhyrst Art Gallery in Brantford, Ontario.
