Random Acts of Art Workshop (RAAW) is a multi-day intensive workshop designed for teens interested in exploring art making. Led by practicing professional artists, RAAW is the perfect balance of instruction and experimentation. No experience necessary.
Jess Ireland has been dancing for nearly 30 years. She specializes in modern and contemporary dance, favouring improvisational techniques and experiences. She studied and performed with the University of Western Ontario dance company from 2005-2008. Ireland has also performed in multiple award-winning productions with the Breath in Mvmt. dance company in London, ON. She currently dances at O.N.E. Dance Centre in her spare time, and runs workshops for people with little to no dance experience who want to reconnect with and express themselves through movement. She aims to tell stories with her dancing – whether its her stories or those of others, the simple and complicated – and tries to find an authentic space from which to move. Some of her favourite dance inspirations are both formally trained teachers as well as individuals with zero training, but who have something to say and a love of organic movement.
The 3-day session will focus on contemporary dance concepts and intentional movement. Participants do not need dance experience – just an open mind, and a love of movement and dance.
Jessica Ireland will lead participants through a warm- up and a series of exercises and explorations in body awareness. Through organic movement, partner and group work, tap into emotions, storytelling and connection to movement.
Wear regular workout attire.
