Making Marks: Works on Paper
Making Marks: Works on Paper from the collections of the McMaster Museum of Art and the Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery
February 2 – May 6, 2018
Making Marks presents an intimate collection of works on paper, ranging from the fifteenth to twenty-first century. The power of the line and its ability to express human emotion is celebrated through an array of drawing mediums that include lithographs, woodcuts, etchings, encaustic, pencil, ink and pastel.
Experience the tenderness and grief in the work of Käthe Kollwitz, empathize with the challenges of the everyday in the encaustic drawings of Tony Scherman, and delight in the sheer joy expressed by Scottie Wilson. This eclectic exhibition includes work by some of the most well-known and admired artists of their time with pieces by David Hockney, Jean Dubuffet, Henry Moore, George Grosz, Miller Brittain, Raoul Dufy, Eugene Delacroix, Albrecht Dürer and Murray Favro… to name a few.
