EventsLook What’s Happening FREE this May at the Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery

It’s art for everyone this May at the Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery in downtown Sarnia. Whether it’s an invigorating Sunday afternoon of hands-on family fun, or the quiet contemplation of the serene Blackwater Ophelia exhibition, there’s always something FREE to see and do. PLUS, the gallery will be open for all of our regular hours over the May long weekend!

Family Sundays

Proudly powered by Bluewater Power, every Sunday is Family Sunday at JNAAG. Different activities await every visit between 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm.

May 10 Mother’s Day Family Sunday
Transform a plain wooden picture frame into a treasured keepsake to hold a favourite memory of you and your mom.

May 17 Terrific Terrariums
Inspired by the exhibition Adad Hannah: Blackwater Ophelia, make your very own miniature world in a glass container using soil, stones, a variety of moss and plants as well as tiny figurines to inhabit your creation.

May 24 Creating Places
Explore space and perspective by making miniature three-dimensional scenes, then take photographs on Gallery-provided iPads to create a completed image.

May 31 Posing in Tableau
Draw a scene and strike a pose then combine the two into an artwork like the scenes in the exhibition, Adad Hannah: Blackwater Ophelia.

Adad Hannah: Blackwater Ophelia
May 1 – August 3, 2015
Organized by the Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery, this exhibition differs significantly from the first time the Blackwater Ophelia work was displayed in Sarnia-Lambton. The uncanny crate, complete with a realistic range of foliage appears again, physically separate from the original tableaux vivants video. Joining these original components are a series of four photographs, all recent acquisitions to the permanent collection. This project required a huge amount of assistance from many different people across Lambton County and there is a dynamic community map of the process of creating this exhibition.

Returning for its 6th (!!!) summer season, Random Acts of Art Workshops (RAAW) promises epic experiences for youth ages 13-18. These workshops fill-up fast and early registration is a must! Come to the gallery on June First Friday to get your registration and information guides.
