Please note that the permanent collection galley located on the second floor will be closed for the exhibition installation of Art Lab: Activating Absence, re-opening First Friday, October 3 at 6:00 pm.

Part I: October 3 – November 2, 2014
Part II: November 7 – 30, 2014
Part III: December 5, 2014 – January 4, 2015

Art Lab: Activating Absence, is a three-part exhibition that offers visitors a chance to make new and exciting connections with unconventional pieces from the permanent collection. Utilizing only one wall of the gallery space to display works that lack obvious imagery, visitors are invited to develop their own interpretations of, and relationship with a work of art. Each part of the exhibition will feature works by London artist Ron Martin and will focus on a different period of Martin’s career. The work highlights his efforts to establish a new relationship between viewer and artwork.

Part 1: Waterworks features eight paintings with a very unique catch: there is no paint. Martin has drawn his works with water on paper, making the entire experience about light and shadow. With no traditional imagery available, viewers are invited to discover their own meaning of the work.

Leaving your opinions of what art should be at the door, Art Lab will open your mind to new viewing experiences. You just may leave with a new way of looking at art.
