Historian speaks about First World War

Exploration of the First World War's impact on Lambton County will be done during a free presentation at the Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery.

People are invited to the one-hour presentation Sept. 28 at the gallery set to start at 7 p.m. Seating is restricted to approximately 45 spaces so people are asked to call the gallery to reserve a spot, 519-336-8127, ext. 3226.

The presentation is by Alec Moore, the digital curator at the Lambton Heritage Museum and a history graduate from the University of Western Ontario, Moore is a fantastic presenter who knows the details of Lambton and the First World War, said gallery assistant curator Sonya Blazek.

There will be a question-and-answer session following the presentation.

Attendees will also have an opportunity to view the Lambton at War exhibit featuring artifacts from the war collected in Lambton.

Photographs of Lambton County during the war years are among the artifacts as well as military items including uniforms.

It is possible attendees might spot a relative among the photographs, said Blazek.

The lecture is the first in a series called Art and Ideas that will expand upon topics presented in gallery exhibitions.

Currently the gallery is featuring art from the First World War done by soldiers and official war artists including future Group of Seven members A.Y. Jackson, Arthur Lismer and Frederick Varley.

The travelling exhibition of 50 artworks is on display until Jan. 7 at the gallery.
