Sarnia, ON – The Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery is pleased to announce two new upcoming summer exhibitions.
Tracey-Mae Chambers: Hope & Healing Canada
Friday, August 5 – Saturday, October 1, 2022
The public is invited to visit Artist Tracey-Mae Chambers as she installs her work Hope & Healing Canada on Thursday, August 4th from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., and on Friday, August 5th from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. at the Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery.
The #hopeandhealingcanada project consists of a series of site-specific art installations across Canada. Each installation is temporary and meticulously created by Métis artist Tracey-Mae Chambers using red yarn that is crochet, knit, and tied. While the yarn symbolically reconnects a fractured society, the red represents blood, passion, anger, courage, and love.
This ongoing body of work is used to illustrate connections between Indigenous, Inuit, and Métis peoples with Canadians, while also broaching the subject of decolonization. The installation invites us to engage with the idea of connection, and how communities can move forward to heal and support one another through traumatic and life-altering events. To learn more about the project and artist follow #hopeandhealingcanada or visit traceymae.com.
