Many Lives Mark this Place is an extraordinary exhibition featuring a selection of large-scale paintings from the renowned Ontario-based painter and printmaker John Hartman's portraits series.
This unique exhibition showcases Hartman's exceptional talent for seamlessly combining literature and visual art to celebrate Canada from coast to coast. Through his vivid and evocative portraits, Hartman invites viewers on a transformative journey across the diverse landscapes of our country, each with its own unique story waiting to be told.
Many Lives Mark this Place is a testament to the power of imagination and the profound impact it has on our physical, emotional, and philosophical experience of the world around us. Hartman's art speaks to the collective desire to explore and celebrate the natural beauty and cultural richness of Canada.
The exhibition is organized and circulated by the Woodstock Art Gallery and curated by Mary Reid.
Nico Williams: Biskaabiiyang / Returning to Ourselves
Friday, April 14 – Saturday, September 9, 2023
Montreal-based artist Nico Williams uses the mesmerizing and tactile materiality of beadwork to explore the intricate connections we have with objects, places, and language. Williams is Anishinaabe and member of the Aamjiwnaang First Nation community, and his multidisciplinary approach frequently involves collaboration and community engagement. His intricate sculptures are entirely hand-woven using hundreds of glass beads and can take on abstracted geometric forms or be sparkling renditions of familiar objects. Through his unique practice, Williams is bringing a fresh perspective to contemporary sculpture while honoring his cultural heritage.
An exclusive members opening event, with artists in attendance, will be held on Friday, May 5 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. For information on how to become a gallery member, please contact Rayneata Dunn at 519-336-8127 ext. 3231 or email her at: rayneata.dunn@county-lambton.on.ca.
