Two featured artists debut their exhibition at Gallery

Two artists begin an exhibition of their work at the Judith and Norman Alix Art Gallery today, just in time for First Friday. 

Gary Spearin, who lives locally in Plympton-Wyoming, is an artist whose work is described as “visceral.” His “OO Paintings” include six large works that are said to “envelop and transform the viewer from the physical to the emotional realms.” in his work, space and texture “oscillate between definable landscape and atmospheric surface textures of indefinable light.”

Diane Landry’s paintings will be shown through July 24

Spearin’s paintings swirl and swell as tension mounts between the mirrored forms. Held in place by elastic bands of colour, the orbs pulsate in and through the depths of the picture plane, releasing an echo that reverberates through the physical and illusionary borders of the paintings.

The second exhibition is by Diane Landry, a Quebec City-based artist. Her exhibition is titled “Knight of Infinite Resignation.”

She describes her work as “Mouvelle Artworks,” meaning that it must be watched for some time before its full meaning is revealed, just as a work of music requires listening from start to finish.

The intricate web of turning lights and darks appear and disappear with the rotation of the wheels, referencing both the hours of the clock and the months of the year while the hiss of falling sand draws attention to the threat of our most precious resource, water.

Since inclusion in the acclaimed “Oh, Canada” exhibition in 2012, Landry’s work has toured internationally.
